Kaiapoi North School shines!

Jason Miles —

During the past 2 weeks we have been proud of the positive participation and success of our students who have been part of a variety of opportunities.

Well done to our Year 8 team which won the Canterbury PCT Police Competence Test (PCT) – an obstacle course used in the entry exams for new police recruits. Our team of Max, Blake, Aliyah and Ayla won the morning round of the Canterbury competition and will now travel to Wellington in November to compete in the NZ competition! Congratulations also to Loburn School who won the afternoon round completing a North Canterbury whitewash!

Our ePro8 teams competed against other North Canterbury teams last week. Our Year 5/6 team finished 7th and our Year 7/8 team finished 1st! Well done to team members Thomas Brocherie, Hayden Inch, Dayna Bennett and Zoe Sole who now move onto the Semi finals of this competition in term 3!

We had 31 runners competing in the North Canterbury Zone Cross Country last week. Congratulations to all runners, in particular to Aliyah Newton (1st), Milan Newton (5th), Kasper Marson (5th), Dayna Bennett (5th), Leo Van Meer (6th) who have now qualified to compete in the Canterbury event later in June!

It was wonderful to see a group of our Year 7 students attend the Young Leaders Day to listen to a variety of speakers to motivate and inform about setting goals and making the most of opportunities.

Well done to our Year 7/8 Rugby League Team who won the hard fought annual game we have against Kaiapoi Borough School 52-28! The team played well together and scored some terrific team tries. A big thank you to Mr O for coaching this team along with Dean Towart and Dan Sincock. Great to have the trophy back in our cabinet!

Thank you for your support last week as the nation's teaching workforce went on strike on Wednesday to raise awareness of the extreme need for increased support for current and future teachers. This is so important in a teaching workforce that has an average age of 57! We ask for the government to listen as we need additional support for learning and behavioural needs, time to plan and assess and increased wages. We are hoping that a meeting between the government and teaching unions on Thursday will bring compromises and a way forward.

Next week a separate notice will come home with information about our upcoming Student led Conferences on Tuesday 25th June and Wednesday 26th June. Included in the letter will be information about booking your times to visit the learning spaces and for you and your child to meet with the teacher. Advanced warning that classes will finish at 2pm on Tuesday 25th June, if you are able to collect your child at that time it would be appreciated, children who stay will be supervised at school until 3pm. The 2pm finish allows us to fit in all conferences over 2 afternoons/evenings. The Pines Beach bus will run at 3pm as normal on Tuesday.
