Jason Miles —

What an exciting 2 weeks we have had with Grandparents Day, Zone Athletic Sports and Akeake Camp!

Our Grandparents Day has been an important annual event at Te Kura o Ruataniwha Kaiapoi North School for the past 15 years! 2020 was no exception with an estimated 250 grandparents at school on Friday, enjoying time in their grandchildren's classrooms and being entertained in our assembly. Thank you so much to our grandparents for being part of this event! Thank you to Mrs Lee-Anne Warren for organising this event and to our PTA for providing the morning tea cuppa and cream scone!

Our team of 63 Year 5-8 students performed with enthusiasm, skill and and effort at the Pegasus Zone Athletic Sports on a very cold day last week. We were so proud of our students and we now have 19 students who will compete in the Canterbury Athletic Sports in early December! The students are: Jae-Lee Stapp, Mikayla Robb, Shiloh Jenkins, Zora Nabi, Mereani Drulidruli, Mica Watson, Tessa Meyrick, Anya Cardwell, Ruby Wilson, Aidan Leigh, Leo Van Meer, Kaedin Fettes, Jonty McAllister, Cooper Holland, Seth Green, Ethan Watson, Jack Lee, Reece Cooke, and Dayton Tonihi-Pitama.  Thank you to Mrs Megan Gilmore and Miss Celeste Lamond for your organisation of this opportunity. Special congratulations to 2 of our students who broke records at the Zone sports:

Seth Green - Long Jump, Yr 8 Boys - 4.83m breaking 2014 record of 4.80m!

Zora Nabi - Shot Put, Yr 5 Girls - 7.32m breaking 2019 record of 6.05m!

Well done to our Akeake (Year 3/4) children who made the most of all the opportunities at their Education Outside the Classroom Woodend camp this week. All children were at the camp on Monday with our Year 4's staying overnight and continuing with the activities on Tuesday. When I visited the children were happy and fully participating in the activities on offer including orienteering, go-carting, archery, trampolining and dodgeball. Thank you to Mrs Belinda Gifford and the Akeake team, and the wonderful parents who supported this event!
