PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora Congratulations to our Hinau Team (Year 5/6) who participated in their Outdoor Education camp at Glentui last week!
I was thrilled and proud to receive feedback from staff and parents who saw our children living our KNS Values and Beliefs. Congratulations to all children who have been on camp, I was pleased to receive praise about your behaviour and positive attitude from the teachers and camp parents. A huge thank you to Mr Brayden Johnson and our wonderful team of teachers and support staff for your fantastic organisation, motivation and support of our children throughout each camp - your time, effort and enthusiasm is most appreciated. A big thank you also to our camp parents. These camps do not go ahead without your commitment, enthusiasm and support - on behalf of the children, teachers and other parents thank you so much! Our Totara classes are participating in their EOTC camp this week at Waipara.
We are excited to have Room 5 and 6 in their new classroom for 2019! A big thank you to Miss Megan Timblick and Miss Chantelle Roome for organising this classroom space so well once the building was ready. There are a couple of finishing touches to be made over the course of the next week, but it is nice to see the classes in there finally! This is a “temporary” building that will be in place until our permanent replacement is built on the vacant site of our block struck by arson. A team of teachers, a Board member and I are working with the Ministry of Education to finalise the plans for this new building, we hope to have it in place ready for the 2020 school year!
Congratulations to our Year 7/8 cricket teams (a boy's team and a girl’s team) Our boys team played well but lost a hard fought game with a combined Loburn/Ashley/Sefton team. KNS batted first scoring 69 with Kruz Fettes and Milan Newton batting well and Josh Jarman and Liam Marshall bowling well. Our girls team have won their first 2 games against Woodend School and Ashgrove School and are the North Canterbury champions! We had strong performances from Aliyah Newton, Kadince Robinson and Ayla Ryan. The girls are now playing Ellesmere College in the country final on Monday from 11:30am - good luck girls!!
At the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday leave was approved for Mr Phil Henderson from term 3, 2019 to the end of 2020. We will miss Mr Henderson greatly, however hope that he and Kate enjoy their overseas experience and look forward to Phil returning for the 2021 school year! We will keep you informed about the process for replacing Mr Henderson for terms 3 and 4.
Some other staff news is more of a relief that they are OK. Mrs Steph Hunter and Miss Caitlin Turner were on their way to visit the Totara camp after school on Monday evening and were involved in a crash when an approaching car crossed the centre line. Thanks to some quick evasive action thankfully both Mrs Hunter and Miss Turner avoided serious injury. As of Tuesday evening Caitlin has had surgery on a fractured ankle and Steph has extensive bruising across her body. We wish them both a speedy and full recovery and have let them know the whole KNS community is thinking of them!
Let us continue to work together in strong partnership for the benefit of our tamariki.
Kind Regards,
Jason Miles, Principal
