News from the DP Office

Stephanie Hunter —

Welcome to week 2. As you may have noticed, the backfield and reserve are very wet and muddy. Our tamariki are doing a great job sharing the hard surface area and playgrounds. Hopefully, the grass area will dry out soon so we can get back on them to run around.

Next week is Maths week and our teachers will be celebrating maths across the curriculum.  Celebrate maths at home with these ideas:

  • Ask your child to help with the shopping by comparing the brands of the things we buy to find the best value for money.
  • Teach your child a new card game you can play together.
  • Let your child show you their favourite app with some maths in it.
  • Talk to your child's teacher about how they are doing in maths and things you can do together so your child can improve.
  • Help your child practice their Fast Facts.
  • Ask your child to help prepare dinner and talk about any maths involved - for example, halves, quarters, litres, grams, and temperatures.
  • Show your child and talk about what the graphs and tables in our newspapers mean.
  • Have a traditional games night at home where the whole family plays a board game like Monopoly together.

MANA AKE - Parent drop-in:  Mana Ake kaimahi (workers) are employed to support schools, families and whānau when children are experiencing issues that impact their wellbeing such as managing emotions, friendships and bullying, parental separation, and grief and loss.  Currently spaces are very limited, however at KNS, our Mana Ake kaimahi (workers) take time to connect with families through parents drop-in sessions, where you can meet privately and seek advice or support for your child.  If you are interested in a parent drop-in session, please contact Mrs Anderson in the DP office.
