From the Principal - 25th September, 2019
We are nearing the end of a busy but enjoyable term at Kaiapoi North. The children have worked hard in the classroom and had many opportunities to participate in.
Thank you to our teachers and support staff for the superb job you do supporting the learning and well-being of our children. Thank you to parents and caregivers for your support with the children’s learning and with activities and opportunities. Our term 4 dates are Monday 14th October - 12pm, Friday 13th December. A reminder we also have a Teacher Only Day on Monday 18th November.
Well done KNS community - we raised $800 that will be going to Russley School to assist them to purchase replacement items following their fire for their classrooms that insurance does not cover. We know only so well what they are going through!
We had another little mishap to deal with on Monday as our underfloor heating system in Tiwai decided to burst a pipe. Small lakes appeared and our classes moved out to the hall for a few days while the clean up took place. What resilient staff and children we have - within an hour classes were set up in the hall and it was business as usual!
We have had 4 major opportunities in the past 2 weeks for our students which reflect the variety of activities our children have to choose from to enjoy and shine in:
Our senior Kapa Haka and Pasifika groups performed with skill, enthusiasm and teamwork on the big stage at the Horncastle Arena during the Christchurch Cultural Festival. Our groups shone and received much applause for their polished performance! Thank you to our tutors Wiremu and Deb, Rome and Shirley, and to our organising teachers Mrs Coleman and Mrs Osgood. For the first time we also had KNS students be part of the Wearable Arts section of this event. The costumes created looked amazing on the big stage! Well done to everyone involved in this opportunity.
Our Year 5-8 children had the opportunity to participate in our Akoranga programme which allows for cultural immersion sessions. This time the focus was on myths and legends within NZ and across the world. Our students shared their learning last week and the results were impressive! Well done to all the children involved and thank you to our teachers Mrs Coleman and Mrs Osgood, and to parents for your support for this important opportunity!
Our Year 7/8 football team competed with skill, teamwork and enjoyment at the Koru Games last week. The Koru Games is a competition open to South Island schools to enter so our team's 10th placing is a credit to them! A big thank you to parents Mr Marson and Mr Shanks for your coaching and management of this team over the 3 days.
Over the weekend one of our school hip hop teams represented KNS at the Dance NZ Made Nationals in Palmerston North. The competition showcased a variety of different dance styles and our girls did an amazing job, competing with passion and huge smiles! Thank you to Mrs McCarthy for leading this team - well done KNS!
We have much to look forward to in term 4, look out for the opportunity to be part of our end of year celebrations and events.
nga mihi nui
