Donations and fees for 2020
From 2020 the Ministry of Education will provide an additional $150 per pupil funding to negate the need for schools to ask for a general donation or fees for activities that relate directly to the NZ curriculum. There are exceptions where schools can still ask for contributions to camp fees and for actual costs not related to the curriculum or when activities are optional and/or outside of school hours.
To make this clear:
We will not be asking for fees or donations in 2020 for the following:
- a general per child/family school donation
- Swimming
- Year 5-8 Winter sports
- Team/hub/class trips - examples Antarctic Centre, Art Gallery, Museum, end of year trips etc
- Visiting shows/performers
- Akeake Year 3 camp costs for the day
- bus transportation - except for activities listed below
We will be asking for donations for the following:
- Hinau and Totara camps - $150 per child (actual cost is closer to $200 but the BOT are using some of the per pupil funding to subsidise)
- Year 7/8 technology (take home component) - $67.00
- Akeake Year 4's camp - $50 per child (as above actual cost for the Year 4 camp is closer to $75)
- All outside of school and inside school optional activities including Code Club, all basketball fees and trips, 3 Peaks, FLL, Year 8 ski trip, Year 8 social.
We will also charge you for the stationery packs provided at the beginning of the year ($35-$50 dependant on age) - we get a very good deal for this, however if you prefer to purchase yourself and would like a list please let our office team know and get the list before term 4 ends. This includes a $7 cost for the online sharing tool "Seesaw", this will be shown as an optional expense on the stationery list.
We are hoping that we will still be able to provide all of the opportunities that we currently do with the new funding and rules. If it proves too costly, for example, we may need to move to providing camps every second year only - however that is not our preference. When you get the list of costs and donations for 2020 we strongly recommend setting up a regular bank payment if you cannot pay it off in full. It is surprising how far even $5 a week goes! As you will see above the costs do increase as your child gets older and with the amount of opportunities they get involved in.
