Kaihere School's Wheels Week: Fostering Resilience, Fun, and Friendship
Richard Reid - April 4, 2023
This week, Kaihere School has come alive with activity as students enthusiastically take part in Wheels Week. Under the watchful eyes of our dedicated teachers, Rachel Purcell and Rachel O'Neill, and our principal, Richard Reid, children have brought their bikes, scooters, skates, and skateboards to school, making the most of break times to embrace fun, fitness, and friendship.
The atmosphere at Kaihere School has been filled with excitement as students develop their riding skills, engage with their peers, and enjoy the beautiful weather. Even those not riding have participated and contributed to the event, managing traffic at pedestrian crossings and exemplifying our school values of care and share.
As part of our school's commitment to the values of live and learn, Wheels Week has also been an opportunity to encourage resilience among students. While a few minor scrapes and falls have occurred, these instances have provided valuable learning experiences for children, demonstrating the importance of taking risks and bouncing back. Such moments allow students to develop a growth mindset and better understand their own capabilities, fostering lifelong resilience.
We extend our thanks to all the parents who have supported Wheels Week by providing wheels for their children. Your involvement has contributed to the success of this memorable event.
Unfortunately, when you get enough children having fun on their wheels together, there is always the odd mishap or accident. It seems unavoidable. However, the safety and supervision have remains our top priorities throughout Wheels Week, with staff members overseeing the activities and ensuring that students follow established guidelines. Children have been encouraged to wear appropriate safety equipment, such as helmets, elbow pads, and knee pads, and our school has been proactive in educating students on safe riding practices.
As Wheels Week continues, we look forward to witnessing more moments of joy, learning, and personal growth that embody the essence of Kaihere School's core values: Care, Share, Live, and Learn.
