Camp Tirohanga
What a wonderful time we had at Tirohanga, and we were very lucky to complete most of our activities as the rain was ready to come down at any moment.
The tramp was short, but steep, and had lots of fun obstacles that the children enjoyed navigating. One of these obstacles was a tree with two trunks that the children climbed over. We also saw a double trunk tree which led to the tramp being renamed ‘Double Tree Tramp’.
The children also spent time on the confidence course, at the camp fire making damper and using their teamwork skills to get their team over the large walls as a part of the initiative course, but the highlight for many was the waterslide. This year Mr Hartley and Mrs Paehua both raced down the slide and the challenge has been set for next year. It seems as though Mr Hartley had a great time at camp as video has emerged of him and Pieter Brits doing a two man roly poly down the hill.
While at Tirohanga, it was great to see the children being independent and it was obvious that many of our children had packed with their parents and were able to organise themselves well when it was time to go.
We would like to again say thank you very much to all of our parent helpers. You make our time at Tirohanga easier. We would like to extend thanks to Peter Dearden who brought his drone and taught the Room 3 and 6 children about flight and also to John Hollows who taught Room 4 and 5 about yabbies. An extra special thank you to all of those who helped in the kitchen, you ensured everything ran smoothly and we certainly appreciated all that you did.
One last thanks to Murray at the Night and Day for supplying our pies they were delicious and to Delaine at Kaan’s catering for organising and delivering our groceries.
