Week 4 Principal's news

Beth Downie —

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata! What is the most important thing in the world? It is people! It is people! It is people!

What a week it has been!

Welcome to Xeline and Zander to Kaikorai; we are so happy you are here.

Our middle syndicate had a full day of outdoor education at Tirohanga. The students in Years 3 and 4 thoroughly enjoyed the bouldering wall, bush walk, outdoor games, and the confidence course. The experience showcased the advantages of EOTC activities, highlighting the development of initiative, teamwork, and the ability to persevere in challenging situations. Thanks to the invaluable support of our 27 parent helpers, it was an exceptionally successful day that wouldn't have been possible without their involvement!

Tuesday saw the sun shining brightly at the Caledonian Ground, where the whole school participated in a very well-organised athletics day. Again, our school values were on display, especially the value of being KEEN | HīKAKA and trying new activities. Again, our Kaik whānau who helped out on the day to make the day happen- we appreciate you.

Wednesday, our keen triathletes participated in the Sport Otago triathlon in Port Chalmers with great results swimming, running and biking.

Thursday, we welcomed back Kirsten from the DPAG to work on some collaborative art with the juniors. They created a piece of art around the taniwha Matamata (look at the photo in the gallery).

We had the privilege of hosting a collaborative orchestra workshop involving students from Kaikorai and Balmacewen. Together, they delivered an excellent concert that showcased their exceptional talent to delighted whānau and guests.

On Friday, the ukulele crew headed to George Street School for UKEJAM to play their ukuleles with other local schools and had an awesome time jamming with other musicians.

Lastly, Miss Hardie heads to Christchurch to coach the Jum Jam Freak Show in the national competition tomorrow. I can't wait to be in the audience cheering for our crew. I wish to acknowledge Miss Hardie for her efforts and energy working with this bunch of Jammers. Good luck, boys!

The common thread of all these events and occasions is the people that make these happen. Our school could not offer half of what we do without teachers who give up their lunch times before and after school  to share their expertise and passion in their field. Similarly, our whānau who help transport, coach and cheer on our little people - we thank you!
