Welcome to the middle syndicate!

Amy McBeath —

Welcome to the middle syndicate. We have enjoyed a great start to the year getting back into routines, and looking forward to supporting your children in their learning journey. We would like to give a warm welcome to our new Kaikorai whānau.

While you may not have been able to pop into the classroom this year to see what we’ve been up to, hopefully, children have been sharing some of the things that they have been working on through conversation or our Seesaw posts.

Teachers and children have been working together to settle into some routines and to set some classroom expectations that align with our school values. Art and other pieces of work are beginning to fill some of the spaces around our rooms.

Each class has been working on a range of getting to know you activities to help build classroom community. While we have been talking about all of school values, there has been an emphasis on being kind to ourselves and to each other. It has been wonderful to see children helping each other out, offering to do jobs around the classroom, and thinking about what kindness looks like in our classroom and around our school. Building on this, we have also started talking about Zones of Regulation in our classroom. Through a range of activities and discussions, children have identified different emotions and what tools or strategies they can use to help them when they are feeling sad, anxious, or angry.

We are also working on being independent by looking after our belongings and making good choices. This will be important when we join the rest of the school in the new building next term. Year 3s will enjoy being back in the new space, but it will be especially exciting for our year 4s as it will be the first time they get to enjoy a brand new classroom.

We look forward to talking with you during our online Parent-Teacher Interviews. The purpose of these interviews is to share goals and what we have learned about your child so far, as well as an opportunity for you to share with us anything you think we should know.

Heoi anō tāku mō nāianei (that's all for now)
