Read on to find out what the Senior Syndicate has been up to this term

All classes are now fully engaged with our Term 1 and 2 PBL. The driving question - the question that drives and focuses our learning is How can we as storytellers tell the amazing story of Pacific Migration. We have been diving into the Land of Voyagers videos and urge you to watch these to see what your child is learning about. A request again for help - if you are a sailor, astronomer, walk-in Te Ao Māori, or have an interest in any of the above, please get in touch!

We were thrilled to have Amadeo from the Otago Museum Science Outreach programme give us a bite-size introduction to reading the stars and how clouds can be useful for navigation. He not only excited the students with some new knowledge but staff also. Craig Martin (Mia's father) spoke to the middles and seniors about boat building, stability, safety, and the life of a superyacht captain. It was a truly entertaining, informative, and valuable talk.

Year 5 and 6 girls were invited to a girls multisport day at Logan Park turf a few weeks ago. This sports afternoon was put on by Football South, Otago Cricket, and Otago Hockey in order to raise the profile of these sports amongst girls. They took part in lots of drills and skills in these sports and had an awesome day!

After a training session with Sport Otago and the Halberg Trust, the 2021 PAL group has begun their mahi!. PAL stands for Physical Activity Leaders and their plan is to get more Kaik kids moving and being physical at lunchtime. Each day in the notices it says what games are on offer and where to find them. It has been awesome to see a number of Juniors getting involved and having fun with the PALS.

Our Year 6 DJ crew did an awesome job at the St Patrick's Day disco. They made the playlist, checked the content and songs, organised games and ideas, were encouraging, and generally did a superb job. Tino Pai to Mahi !

Looking ahead to Term 2, we are visiting the Otago Museum to enhance our PBL knowledge. The dates are as follows and a request for parent help will be sent out in week 1.

Monday 17 May 10:30 am - 12pm R1

Monday 17 May 1pm - 2:30pm R1A

Tuesday 18 May 10:30 am - 12pm R2

Tuesday 18 May 1pm - 2:30pm R2A

I hope your children have an enjoyable holiday break and come back refreshed for another term of great learning and experiences.

Kia pai to harerei ~ have a great holiday.
