Simon Clarke —

Some reminders for this newsletter.

Reminder 1 - Street Party

Most importantly, our Street Party is coming up on October the 17th.  Make sure you have saved the date as it should be a wonderful event and an excellent fundraiser but this can only happen with your help.

The fair and Parent Group raise money that goes directly benefits your child.  You may have noticed the new playground is about to start and 1/3 of this budget was raised by the Parent Group.  Their fundraising also goes towards keeping class trips free by paying for buses etc and the Chatbus.

We need volunteers to help with or co-ordinate the following stalls:

  • Books
  • Bouncy
  • Castle
  • Candyfloss
  • Chocolate wheel
  • Clothing
  • Entertainment
  • Face painting
  • Flick
  • Gumboot throwing
  • Hot dogs and chips
  • Hot ham buns
  • Magic hair and nails,
  • temp tattoos
  • Mystery bottles
  • Sausage sizzle
  • Security
  • Sushi
  • Tombola
  • Toys
  • White elephant

Each stall has detailed instructions on what you need to do so the main thing that we need is your time!  If you can help please contact the parent group at pg@kaikorai.school.nz

If we cannot gather enough volunteers it will put the Street Party at jeopardy of going ahead.

Finally, we have five 10-15 minute entertainment slots to fill.  If you are part of a band or entertainment group please also contact the parent group.

Reminder 2 - Road Safety

Please read the 'kiss and run' section in this newsletter as it has important information on how this area works best.  It is pretty simple...please obey all road rules and don't park on yellow lines even if you "can't find a park close" or "if it is only for a minute".  A child can get seriously hurt in a second if a car is parked illegally.

Reminder 3 - Student Independence.

Thank you to the vast majority of parents who have allowed your child to develop greater independence by getting to and from their class by themselves in the mornings and afternoons.  Our teachers continue to see many benefits from this.  Teachers will continue to be at the Tyne St gate for those students who require additional support to get to class.  We prefer that children walk to class by themselves from the gates in the morning and that parents wait off-site until 3pm.

Reminder 4 - New App

Please see the Skooloop article about our new app.  It is much easier to use, significantly cheaper for the school to run and we hope that you find it useful.  It is especially important to have on your phone in case of emergency's as we can contact you immediately through push notifications.  Thank you to the local businesses who have supported this app.

Reminder 5 - Student Health

You may have noticed an increase in Covid19 advertising and heard the Ministry of Health concerns about community transmission.  Once again please do not send your children to school if they are sick.  You should contact your doctor to see if they meet the criteria for a Covid19 test. We will be continuing to enforce a 48-hour stand down for children who vomit or have diarrhoea.

Kind regards

Simon Clarke
