Senior News

Bridget McDowall —

Nā tēnei ao, ka wātea koe ki te mahi aha, me ngākau atawhai! If you can be anything in this world, be kind!

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa,

The Senior Learning Team has had a fantastic first three weeks- read on to find out all about it and upcoming events.

A warm welcome to our new senior learning team parents. Unfortunately, due to being at Red, we have been unable to meet in person. We really look forward to meeting you soon.

The first three weeks of the school year have been filled with getting to know each other activities, developing a class community, adjusting to wearing face masks, and writing our Pepeha. We have been spending time learning how to manage ourselves in the classroom and how to put our problems into perspective. These are called our Zones of Regulation.

Seesaw

Teachers are posting regularly on Seesaw to enable you to see what is happening in our learning team. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have not been receiving Seesaw posts and announcements.

Masks

The Year 4-6 students have adapted extremely well to wearing face masks in class. Please remind your child to bring them home to be washed regularly. Thank you for your continued support of these vital health measures and for providing your children with face masks.

Trips/Groups

From the 8th-10th of March, our Year 5 and Year 6 students will be heading to Long Beach for a day of rock climbing with Tim and the team from Dunedin Climbing. The objective of this visit is to develop self-confidence, be presented with a challenging opportunity, and try something new - all coming under the KAIK value of being keen. Please ensure that you have completed the permission form for this trip.

Kapa Haka

We had our first week of Kapa Haka and it was great to see so many of our senior students taking part in this group. If your child would like to sign up, please ensure that you have completed this form.

Camp

Our camp dates for this year are the 22nd-25th of November. More information and a request for parent volunteers will be sent out at the start of Term 3. This will allow time for Police Vetting to occur.

Masters Students

Welcome to Emma Walker (R 12), Emma Fox (R 11), and Maddy Freeland (R 10) our Master’s Students from the University of Otago College of Education. They are at Kaikorai until the July school holidays and we are excited to see them grow as teachers.

Sunhats

Please ensure that your child has a school sunhat for this term. Sunhats need to be clearly named. If your child requires a new hat, these can be purchased at the office, a new order has been made and hats will be back in stock in the next 2 weeks.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can help in any way.

Ngā mihi

Bridget McDowall, Rosarah Hardie, Anya Matravers, and Mark Pickering
