Play the French Horn
There is a special opportunity for students of Kaikorai Primary School to learn the French Horn from Dr Errol Moore who teaches brass in a number of Dunedin primary and secondary schools and established the independent the Albrassclass programme.
The P trumpet (plastic) will be the instrument for 4- 5 weeks to establish a few basics of brass note production. Assuming that is a successful process your child will transfer to horn (supplied by the Dunedin Brass Academy and Dunedin Symphony Orchestra). The lessons (about 25) are $10 each for the year.
Your child may be a complete beginner to learning a specific instrument, or it maybe a second instrument. In any event, the lessons will include music reading skills, which are a must for brass. To play the horn you need to be able to sing confidently because sense of pitch is really important in finding the right notes. If you read the introduction to Allbrass class you will see the programme has high expectations and assumes there is time allowance and support at home.
To find out more give Errol a call or email (0272896570 or allbrassclass@gmail.com) and in the meantime you might like to listen to a couple of you tube clips with your child. Here are suggestions where horn is a solo instrument with orchestra.
