Kaikorai School is committed to providing your child with a rich literacy program to help them learn to read, write and spell to the best of their ability.
We are on a Structured Literacy journey. What Is Structured Literacy? Structured literacy (SL) approaches emphasize highly explicit and systematic teaching of all important components of literacy. These components include both foundational skills (e.g., decoding, spelling) and higher-level literacy skills (e.g., reading comprehension, written expression).

Superpower https://www.facebook.com/SuperpowerCharity/ have put together a FREE Information Pack for families with a child who has or might have neurodiversity (ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Autism Spectrum etc). There are around 75,000 school age children with some form of neurodiversity.
The pack has been going out to schools and families since the start of the year and they are getting great feedback.
Currently the system relies on the school, teacher, SENCo and Learning Support Co-ordinators to do much of the heavy lifting in supporting the child and family and it is quite difficult to get families up to speed with information. This is where this information pack comes into play.
This information pack contains lots of great information, including:
- Links to support and information groups
- Type of Neuordiversity
- Key people you need to know and their roles
- Information for the classroom
- Materials needed at school
- Study at home
- Setting up a good study area
- Study time
- Sensory Strategies
- Support your child’s self-regulation
- Managing feelings
- Problem solving
- Social Cues
- Cognitive Flexibility
- Connecting with your child
- Managing Stress
They would love to get these Information Packs into the hands of the parents of these kids. You can contact them through their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SuperpowerCharity/ and request it from there.
If you would like more information regarding Structured Literacy, or around any concerns about your child, please get in touch with myself, or your child's teacher.
