Read a diary entry from 1869 written by Luke Room 4

Dear Diary 15/1/1869

Today I walked to Lyndon Kaikorai School from Princes St, it is quite a long walk, 40 minutes!

My teacher is Miss Hard she is very strict but I hope she gets married soon so I get a new teacher.

At my school, there are about 100 students, today I had History, Maths, Geography, and Hand Writing.

My friend Sam and Tyler got the whip today, Miss Hard was super mad with them because Sam and Tyler were both looking out the window and not paying attention.

Today I went home for lunch and had chicken and bread it was delicious, it was crumbling in my mouth. Then I went back to school to have a bit of a play around at lunchtime with Lee, Sam, Maddox, and Mikey.

The most boring subject is Hand Writing because you have to do cursive of every letter, capitals and lower case it takes about 1 hour. Then I walked all the way home again but this time something scary happened, do you want to know what? I almost got run over by a horse and carriage!

Before school finished Miss Hard just announced she’s getting married. She is still teaching for a couple more weeks but it’s amazing news!!!!!!!

School production,  Lucia R4

This term at Kaikorai School we have been learning a dance for the production. Everyone has been working hard and having fun with their classmates.

The production is being held at Otago Boys High School. We are making dancing about special events over the last 150 years.

In Room 4 we got to learn some green screen for the background. For the background we got to either have a video or a picture, this was fun to learn.

My favorite part so far has been making up new fun moves. We are excited to see everyone's new dances and how they are going to tell a story.

A diary entry from the main character in the novel Holes, written by Olly R2

Friday 13th November 1972 Texas

Dear Diary,

I am hot,  tired sore and sick, by the way, I am Stanley Yelnats. I have been digging 5 by 5 holes for the past week and this will be my life for the next 18 months. How did I get here you say? I got here from stealing shoes but no one believes me that I am innocent! It's hard to believe the shoes fell from the sky but it's true that is what happened. Anyway, that is a long story.

Today I got nicknamed caveman and my new friends are X-ray, Zero, Armpit and also Zig-Zag. I am still sweaty even after my cold four-minute shower. I am also sleeping on a cot that was once used by a boy called Barf Bag. I can only imagine why he was named that. I don’t know if I will ever get use to all the smells and snoring in this tent and as soon as I fall asleep It feels like I have to get up again at 4.30!

My hands are sore and every day they get worse because tomorrow I will have to dig another hole. I better save my strength and stop writing, I am off to the wreck room now. Talk later.
