Reading Challenge, Cross Country, 3rd Year students and the Olympics

With the success of the Spelling Bee last term, the Middles have decided to focus on reading for Term 3. The aim is for children to become more eager readers who are willing to try new books and to develop more enthusiasm for reading.

We will be participating in the Hell Pizza Reading Challenge. Each child will receive a pizza wheel which requires them to read 7 books or chapters depending on their level or the current book they are reading. They then receive a free Hell Kids 333 pizza. Our focus is on improving the time children spend reading independently for pleasure.

We have welcomed back our 3rd year student teachers Miss Jensen and Miss Laing to the middle syndicate, who will be on supervised control for three weeks later this term in Rooms 3 and 5. This term is their final term in our classes before they complete exams and graduate as enthusiastic qualified teachers.

Well done to all the children that participated in the cross-country tryouts. It is great to see all of the children running enthusiastically every day and keeping track of the distance they have run.

Olympics

There has been a lot of discussion in the lead up to the Olympics. Children have been finding out about athletes, sports, countries, and other related topics. They have been identifying both positive and negative aspects of the Olympics, with some very thoughtful comments being made. Children have also been fascinated by some of the amazing skills displayed by paralympians, and other people with disabilities. A definite theme of ‘Yes I can!’ has been emphasised as something that we can all demonstrate.

Due to it being a short term, swimming will now be held in Term 4.
