The Zones of Regulation self regulation programme has been a large focus for us at Kaikorai over the past 2 years. The Zones language is now embedded in each classroom's culture and you can hear the Zones colours, and self regulation tools and strategies used regularly throughout the school. We hope that you are hearing the language of the Red, Blue, Green and Yellow zones in your homes now. 

I have been going into 3 classrooms every Thursday afternoon since we've started on our Zones journey, and have been impressed with how it has evolved into part of our Kaikorai culture. Recently, I have been offering sessions beyond the Zones curriculum. Teachers are signing up for sessions that would best fit their classroom's needs. This year, I have been going into classrooms and talking about the following topics: 

  • Understanding Different Perspectives

  • Caution! Triggers Ahead!

  • Thinking Strategies - Size of the Problem

  • Inner Coach/Inner Critic

  • Mindfulness

  • Relax Kids

  • Resilience

  • Diversity and Inclusion

  • Physical Wellbeing

  • Responsible Decision Making

  • Bullying Prevention

  • Interoception Skills

Ask your children to share with you what they've learned from these sessions. Our tamariki are becoming more comfortable at being vulnerable and able to share their feelings in a variety of different ways, in a safe space. KAIK kids are amazing!!
