Week 6 Principal's news
Samoan language week
It was so fabulous to have one of our dads in this week celebrating and sharing his Samoan culture with Rūma toru. All classes throughout the school have recognised Samoan language week and I have loved seeing this on SeeSaw and while walking around our school.
Learning is forever
Every BOT meeting I share the professional development our staff have under taken in the last month. It is really important to recognise and acknowledge the mahi that is being done 'behind the scenes' all for the benefit of Kaikorai School and our ākonga.
This term we have 6 teachers on their Te Reo and Tikanga Māori journey. Some are completing the Te Ahu o te reo Māori study, some are working on their level 4 He Papa Tikanga course and some are learning Te Reo through Dunedin based Education perfect. We have have had 2 awesome teacher aides complete a 14 hour weekend workshop on how to best support our learners. 2 teachers have attended a workshop on regulating the brain and the BOT attended a workshop on Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We have had staff attend a seminar on how to support the everyday inclusion of children on the autism spectrum and lastly we have a crew attending a bucket drumming workshop next Saturday!
I think you will agree with me, that is impressive!

Report writing and parent interviews
Our teachers are writing your child's mid year reports at the moment. These will be sent out to you via email at the end of week 9. In week 10 there is an opportunity to have a conversation about your child's learning, progress, achievement and goals. Keep an eye out for the parent interview booking email. The home school partnership is an important one and we value to the opportunity to kōrero with you.
