It's Break Time!

I want to extend my appreciation to our outstanding senior team teachers for their hard work during this term. Our teaching programmes are going from strength to strength as we aim high to meet and exceed the aspirations of our tamariki and their whānau.

This term, our teachers have taken part in professional development around the new maths curriculum and are applying this new knowledge in the classroom. by creating exciting programmes that encourage our tamariki to explain and justify their mathematical understanding. We have continued to improve our literacy programmes by researching best practice and what makes a successful programme. Our students are thriving in their classrooms!

As the term comes to a close, we bid farewell to our Masters of Teaching students, Hannah Smith and Jono Allen. Additionally, we say goodbye to the talented Campbell Landrebe, who has been working alongside Miss Hardie as a trainee teacher this term. I wish all three of them the best in their future endeavours.

I also want to express gratitude to our incredible families for their support this term. Looking ahead to the next term, we eagerly anticipate exciting activities such as swimming, activity week, Year 6 camp, a disco, the Leaver’s Celebration, athletics day, and the Kaikorai Primary Art Exhibition.

I hope everyone has a fantastic and restful break!

Kōtuitui Programme with Football South

Our senior school students have participated in the Kōtuitui Programme each Monday. Students are learning football skills in a fun, game-based environment. The purpose of the programme is for children to develop their cultural intelligence skills, enable them to better connect with others and celebrate our bicultural roots and the ever-growing multicultural landscape of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Our Senior Team has also been part of an in-school football competition each Tuesday afternoon as part of our PBL and the Zespiri Virtual Challenge.

PALS

Our PALS organised a four-week-long football competition, culminating in the final match this past Friday. The finalists were Australia and New Zealand, with Australia emerging victorious and earning the prestigious title of 2023 Kaikorai Primary School Football Champions.

We extend our gratitude to our PALS for their dedication to planning the tournament and refereeing the games.

Thank you to all who took part!

Zesperi Virtual Challenge

Last Thursday, our entire school joined a Jump Jam session to promote healthy living as part of the Zespiri Virtual Challenge. During the event, each of us received a piece of kiwifruit. It's worth noting that we are the only school in New Zealand where every class is participating in the challenge. We're excited to announce that we'll be continuing with these whole-school Jump Jam sessions next term.

Senior School Swimming

Lesson dates- Monday 9/10, 16/10, (23/10 No lessons), 30/10, 6/11, 13/11, 20/11, 27/11, 4/12

You should have received a Google Form from your classroom teacher regarding swimming. Please complete this promptly.

Pupils will be ability-grouped with children from their class and have lessons from Just Swim Swim School followed by 30 minutes in the leisure pool at the end of their lesson - this is dependent on parent helpers who can be in the water.

We will be walking to and from Moana Pool and require parent help for each trip and parents who can actively supervise children in the pool. Please indicate below if you can assist.

We can have time in the leisure pool after each session; for this to happen, we need at least one adult in the water and two at the side of the pool.

Poetry

Reflection is…

If reflection was a colour, it would be the darkest grey of the darkest clouds.

But every bad cloud must go away someday.

If reflection was a feeling was a feeling, it would be the feeling of being alone in the damper grey world.

The ripples in a pond that slowly fade away until another droplet of sorrow restarts it.

But every droplet of sorrow must be evaporated and taken away by the sun that might just fall ever so slowly once again.

If reflection were a thing, it would be the old man's tears of regret in the starry night.

Every ominous cloud must go away, every droplet must be evaporated, and every tear must fall.

But they must always come back.

Reflection

Reflection is looking at yourself in the mirror with nowhere to hide, looking in the water and finding change.

When you look in the mirror and see the good side of you and on the other side, it is the bad side of you.

Reflection can be good, it can be bad it can be all kinds of feelings welling up inside my mind,

Reflection can change people's lives; I look in the mirror and think,

Who am I?

I reflect, and I know who I am.

Dream

The moon shines bright tonight, reflecting all the sun's light.

Light bounces back at me, and I absorb all the warmth deep within me.

I look in the water and start to dream of my reflection and what I could be.

When I look at my reflection right in front of me,

I can dream of anything I want to be.

When I wake up, I see the sun shining reflection all over me.

The reflection makes two of the world,

the good, the bad, the dreams I dream.

When it comes to my reflection, happiness is all I see.

Like what I see in my dreams.

Reflect and learn the lessons you were meant to know for the future.

Doing better, being better, and planning to achieve my dreams.

Looking at Myself

When you look at yourself in the day,

You can see yourself from far away.

I look in the mirror,

What do I see?

A beautiful reflection of only me.

Reflection in the water, what do I see?

I see a beautiful person inside of me.
