Thank you for being part of our Term 1 school interviews! We all enjoyed having an opportunity to talk with parents about the new school year. If you missed out on having an interview, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to arrange a time to talk.

Long Beach Trip

This week our Senior classes traveled to Long Beach to take part in climbing and other beach activities. We were fortunate to have good weather and the children made the most of this wonderful activity outside the regular classroom. It was exciting to see the wildlife including Little Blue penguins and a pod of dolphins. Our senior students challenged themselves and showed perseverance and resilience even when feeling unsure. As always, a huge thank you needs to go to our parent helpers. We couldn’t do these wonderful things without you.

Project-Based Learning

This term we are starting a new project-based learning topic. We are trying to find creative ways to showcase our learning and space without having visitors come into the school. Definitely a relevant project! Classes have started this project with a bang, brainstorming all the things that make Kaikorai amazing. We sure do have a lot to be thankful for. Next, we will be looking into different ways we can showcase and share this with our whānau. Watch this space for exciting things to come.

Physical Activity Leaders

We have a great group of Physical Activity Leaders (PALS) for 2022. PALS gives our senior students an opportunity to develop their personal leadership skills. The role of a PAL is to help people learn games, encourage full participation of all peers, and demonstrate leadership skills in physical activity. They are keen to start helping around the school running games and activities at lunchtime. This week the PALS helped to organise Walk ‘n’ Wheel week. They were all super enthusiastic and their help was greatly appreciated.

Walk ‘n’ Wheel

This week we celebrated Walk ‘n’ Wheel week. The event was designed to promote and encourage active transport to and from school to help reduce congestion at the school gate. We had fun dressing up and giving out prizes at the school gate each morning.

Managing Self at School

Our Senior school students are growing in independence and are learning how to organise themselves for the day so that they can be prepared to get the best out of each learning day. We are finding that many students are losing property, meaning that they are not prepared to start learning tasks. Please ensure that your child has…

Goodbye Old School

It was a peaceful lunchtime until a huge vibration invaded the school grounds.

It was the school building getting demolished by the long-necked creature with huge teeth rumbling across the scraps of the old school.

It chomped up the school and as clouds fell across the sky, I looked down at something that used to be there, something that we had loved.

The sky cried tears making everybody have to move inside the Learning Street.

The children were gazing out the windows with wonder.

Some felt their hearts shatter into a million pieces, thinking of what had gone but also feeling excited about what was to come.

Teachers were drinking their coffee, sipping slowly, and gazing out across the school. Reminiscing about the good old days, excited about new beginnings.

It was an emotional day for some.

Destruction and Happiness

All was happy in Kaikorai school until the predator came in the form of a giant claw.

The trees cried green tears as all was devoured.

The school's old creaky arms gave in as it was flattened.

The playground was ripped out of the ground it had held onto for so long.

But the creature wasn't done, it shoveled brick and cement to form a brand new school.

The new school stretched out its wings like a tui awakening from a long slumber.

Christmas morning

I sink down into wrapping paper, the feeling of coldness sunk into my skin giving me goosebumps. I can see my mum recording as my sisters were eating lollies and opening presents, I feel happy but hungry.

The smell of breakfast flew into my mouth as I bite into my croissant the taste filled my body with happiness. I could hear my cousins screaming. I was holding my present from my nana. I love Christmas it's my favourite time of the year!

Pool party

I walk into the pool ready to swim. I can hear people yelling with laughter and the waves crashing at the beach beside us and the splashing of the kids.

I can feel the goggles around my eyes and the water on my face. I can see the people playing in the pool and i can see the floaties. I can smell the chlorine. I can taste the salt from the pool. I felt majestic diving into the water.
