As mentioned last week, we welcomed back the class of 1962. It was actually quite an emotional experience for them as they toured the school, talked with tamariki, and reminisced about their experiences as Kaik Kids. Our children found it difficult to understand why you would sing 'God Save the Queen' each morning, what 'getting the strap' meant and why you would only do reading, writing and arithmetic all day.
The group expressed how warmly welcomed they felt and were impressed by the technology, including features like automatic windows in the classroom. They admired the bright, warm, and colourful spaces and were especially moved by the school's haka and waiata, which brought many to tears.
It was a wonderful experience for us all, and I hope we see the group back in another five years.
Thanks to Kelly and Sue for organising the Easter raffle hampers. Congratulations to Willow G R6, Aria I-A R2 and Scarlett R10.
I really hope your families have a restful long weekend as we recognise Otago Anniversary Day on Monday.
There won't be a newsletter on Friday 29th, as we begin our Easter Holiday.
Kristen Ferguson will be acting principal from April 3rd through April 9th. I am privileged to be heading to World EduLead. If Kristen can help you in any way her email is kferguson@kaikorai.school.nz
