Driving Question: How can we as guardians help Paptūānuku breathe?

Now that swimming is over, the junior children have been getting stuck into their PBL for this term. Our special job this term is to be ‘guardians’ of our school environment. Our school build has meant our environment is ever-changing and some children noted the absence of our native birds and bug life. We are excited to create an inviting garden, ‘Papatūānuku’s Garden’ to help encourage birds and bugs back to Kaikorai. We are looking forward to a visit from Tahu from Orokonui Ecosanctuary, to be followed by a trip to the Ecosanctuary (more details are to come on this trip). As you know, our junior children have great imaginations and our plans for our garden are BIG. We are looking for gardening and building experts in our community who can help with planting and building planter boxes. If you or someone you know would be keen to help out please get in contact with your child’s teacher. We would love your help!!

Whānau Morning

A big thank you to all our parents and grandparents who attended our whānau morning in Week 4 - we are still overwhelmed by the turnout! We recognise how hard it has been not being able to come on-site. This made our whānau morning that much more special. Our children loved sharing their work and being able to spend time completing an activity with their family members. We look forward to sharing our new spaces with you more and making more special memories!

Student Teachers

Over the last few weeks, we welcomed back our wonderful student teachers - Miss Norwood (R6), Miss Stephens (R7) & Miss Howell (R8). We continue to be impressed with their innovative and fun lessons. What lucky children!

Reminders

Spare Clothes:

As the weather is getting colder and the grounds getting wetter and muddier we ask that all children have a spare change of clothes in their bag.

Lost Property:

Already this term we have quite a collection of lost property. Please ensure all items are clearly named so these can be returned.

Lastly, we welcome Miss Nicole Wilson to Rūma Ono who takes over from Miss Riley while she is on maternity leave. We feel very lucky to have gained such an experienced and kind teacher!
