A special welcome to our newest Kaik Kids, who have started this week, Amos and Roni - we are so happy you are here.
It was wonderful to have a full week of school. Our routines are running smoothly, and I enjoyed giving out Principal's Awards to celebrate the great work happening at Kaikorai. I'm especially happy to see our Kaik Values being demonstrated both in classrooms and on the playground.
Kapa Haka will start again in Week 4 and will be held on Fridays.
What is Kapa Haka? It's a chance to learn Māori waiata, haka, performance, and tikanga.
Pīwakawaka Hapori (Y0-2) : All junior students will participate in Kapa Haka from 11:00-11:30 am.
Tūī and Kererū Hapori (Y3-6) : Middle and senior students can try Kapa Haka from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. These first few weeks are a trial period to see if they enjoy it. After the trial, students who want to commit to the Kapa Haka group must sign up. Official sign-up forms will be available after the trial period.
Please talk to your child about whether they'd like to join the Kapa Haka group.
Teachers have regular classroom release time, either weekly or fortnightly, to work on student assessments, professional development, classroom planning or leadership commitments. During these times, a dedicated release teacher takes the class. This release time is a contractual entitlement for all teachers and a vital part of their work week.
I'm looking forward to connecting with our community next week at the whānau picnic, followed by a meet-the-teacher presentation. Each teacher will give a short presentation about classroom routines and expectations and answer general questions. Please note that this is not intended for individual discussions about your child.
Congratulations to these students who have been recognised for this week's Principal Awards.
