He oranga ngākau, he pikinga waiora - Positive feelings within you enhances wellbeing

PBL & Play

We are well underway with our healthy living topic. In the Junior classes, we are exploring health through the holistic approach of 'Te Whare Tapa Wha'. Children are learning that for ultimate well-being, all 4 aspects of health need to be intact: taha tinana (physical health), taha hinengaro (mental & emotional), taha wairua (spiritual), and taha whānau (family).

So far, we have dedicated time to learning ways to nourish our bodies through healthy eating and physical games. We have also utilised gameplay to emphasise our mental and emotional well-being. Some classes have enjoyed family members visiting for games afternoons, and we thank you for taking the time to join us.

We are looking forward to the celebration of our learning with the 'Junior Games' in Week 10.

We greatly value family involvement in our learning and are reaching out to family members or friends in the health profession who would be interested in coming in to share their knowledge with our tamariki. Please inform your child's teacher if you would like to join us.

Maths

This year, all teachers at Kaikorai have collaborated with Tash McLellan from ImpactED to enhance our math programs in line with the new curriculum. Our primary focus has been on warm-up activities that encourage mathematical thinking and language. Attached below are examples of warm-ups we have employed: 'move 'n' prove,' 'estimysteries,' 'odd one out,' and 'quick 4.' We encourage you to discuss these with your children.

Sickness

Over the past few weeks, we have encountered a significant wave of various illnesses. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in keeping your children at home until they have fully recovered, as this helps prevent the further spread of these bugs.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to get in contact with your child's teacher.

The Power of Yet

The power of yet is an important gift. It is a gift to every human that faces challenges in life. When it is tricky, never give up and believe in yourself. At Reid’s Birthday Party I had to have help at first but then I could do it by myself. The yet pet is a handy pet to have around you. Even when you say you can’t do it yet, you can one day if you keep on trying.

The Power of Yet

The power of yet can help you when you feel frustrated and it can make you feel good. When it gets tough, just say “I can’t do it yet”. Then you can do anything. Be kind to yourself and reach for your destiny. Then you will feel good!

The Power of Yet

Have you ever faced a challenge? A really hard one? I have as I was jumping off the high diving board. I was at Moana Pool at a birthday party. I stood at the top, my heart beating as fast as a cheetah. I took a deep breath… and I jumped off the diving board. I struggle when I try some new things but then I say aloud “I can’t do it yet!”. I never give up when something is hard.
