Middle's News

After an action-packed start to the term, it has been great to get back to our normal routines.

This week we were treated to a performance from members of the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra. They shared with us a range of instruments and played some well-known songs for the children. A notice was sent home on Wednesday with children who are interested in joining a Saturday morning music class.

This term the main driver of our inquiry learning has been structures. Each class has approached this differently looking at buildings or the structure of Koura (yabbies).

Before our visit to Tirohanga children were asked to draw a picture of a koura. Room 3 are studying Koura and have specifically looked at the structure of their bodies. This has led to some fantastic sketching practice of pincers and faces. Check out the gallery for some before and after examples.

In Room 6 children have been busy using Planner 5d, lego and a range of equipment to create structures. They have enjoyed the freedom to let their imaginations run wild to plan and create a range of structures from small to mega!

Room 5 had their assembly item this week. They have spent a lot of time writing, singing, acting and practicing.  As always Mrs. Kumar has let the children drive their item and carefully guided them to perform their best show. They have created their own 'Legend of the Kaikorgeti'.  Africa has come to Kaikorai, and Dunedin gave us a very, very hot 'African-like' day which was a challenge to our Room 5 onesie wearing children.  Well done Room 5!

Hats

As it is term 4 all children should have their hats at school. It is important to remind children not to share hats at school.

Headlice

All schools and most people will have headlice at some point in their lives and classes in the middle syndicate are not immune. It is wise to check your child's hair regularly and we appreciate you informing us here at school if you do find anything so that we can send out notices to all parents.
