Student Volunteer Army Award Scheme
The SVA Service Award is a national framework that recognises the volunteering efforts of Year 9 -13 students. Available free to groups or individuals, students are awarded a pin for initial volunteering hours and log additional efforts online or on the SVA App. School, community and in-home volunteering all qualify and are combined into a single record of service.
Log. Earn. Build. Use.
The Service Award follows the model of Log. Earn. Build. Use.
Students Log hours using the SVA App or website. They Earn pins when they reach volunteering hour milestones. Build a Summary of Service to Use in their university/job/student leadership applications.
The Pins
Students earn their pins as they log their hours.
When students log their first 5 hours they will receive their first pin.
Summary of Service
As hours are logged, students start to build a record of their service. The Service Record includes the details of each logged event, total hours, dates of pins achieved and hours contributed toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Students can use their Service Records to support things like:
Student Leadership applications
University/Halls of Residence applications
Job applications
How to sign up to the SVA Award Scheme:
There are 2 ways that students can access the SVA Service Award platform - The SVA app and the SVA Website.
The SVA App
Students can download the SVA App directly to their devices through the App Store or Google Play Store.
Once the app is downloaded, students click the Sign Up button at the bottom of the screen and are guided through the following pages. It is important that students read the school name carefully and select the correct school.
Once they have created an account, they can start logging. Students can backdate volunteering from previous years at high school - things like school volunteering days, one off and regular volunteering events are all eligible.
The SVA Website:
Signing up through the website follows the same process. Simply visit https://volunteer.sva.org.nz/ and click the 'Create an Account' button. Fill out all sections and the account will be ready to go.
There is a hui on Tuesday the 9th August in the school library at 1.20pm for students who would like help to sign up to this award scheme.
