Sports Update

KHS Editor —

Term 1 has seen a rush of sport happening here at Kamo High. We have had multiple NSSSA events happening as well as our Winter sport codes kicking into action with trials for Football, Netball, Hockey and Basketball being completed so it has been all go!

NSSSA events have included Senior Volleyball Championships for both our Girls and Boys teams. Our girls team coming away in 5th place and our boys B team also placing 5th, and the boys A team taking out the championship! This was a good result for our boys A team who are preparing to head away to the NZ Secondary School Nationals in Palmerston North next week. We wish them the best of luck.

We have also had the NSSSA Athletics Championships whereby we had some great results:

100m Finals jnr Girls - Georgia Tipene

100m Finals Int Boys - Harry Parore

200m Finals Jnr Girls - Georgia Tipene

3000m Final Snr Boys - Zane Brown 3rd

Long Jump Jnr Girls - Gemini Harris 2nd

Javelin Int girls - Vicky Welch 2nd

There were also some personal bests for some students as well so all round a great achievement.

We also had two of our students travel north to the NSSSA Surfing Championships - Gemma Viccars placing 3rd in the U16 Girls and Daniel Viccars placing 9th = in the U19 Boys divisions. Well done to you both.

Tonight sees the start of our Winter sporting codes with our Girls 1st XI Hockey team having their first game. Good luck girls!

Next week we have Iwi Sports kicking off for the year with our first being Turbo Touch. We look forward to see what each Iwi brings to that competition!
