Four KHS Alumni at the Tokyo Olympics

KHS Editor —

As we enjoy watching the success of our NZ athletes at the long awaited 2020 Tokyo Olympics we are reminded of the impact of sport on society.

At no other time in history have sports played such a dominant role in daily life. Thanks to the prevalence of the internet and television, adults and children alike consume sports at an astonishing rate. When we are not physically involved in sports, we play them via video games or in fantasy leagues, and we watch them on TV. The celebrity status of top athletes speaks to the importance we attach to sporting events.

Kamo High School has 4 of our alumni participating in the Tokyo olympics.

Stacey Michelsen NZ, Black sticks captain

Hannah Wilkinson NZ, White ferns striker

Kirk Pitman Australia, Volleyball women’s coach

Simone Ackermann South Africa, Triathlete

While we are proud of them competing on the world stage in their chosen sport we are reminded of the many and varied co-curricular opportunities we offer our students here at Kamo High School.

A massive thank you to the teachers, whānau , and friends of our school who support our students to engage in these opportunities.
