KHS Head Prefects 2023 —

Tēnā koutou ngā kaitiaki mā,

One of our Kamo High School Head Prefects, Anna Bowker, laid a wreath at the ANZAC Whangārei dawn service on behalf of Kamo High School. It was touching to see Kamo students there with us remembering those who have fallen.

Congratulations to our Kamo High School senior P.E class who came 1st in the Northland School Frisbee Championships. We love to see students putting teams together and getting involved in a wide range of competitions and sports.

Pink shirt day is coming up on the 19th of May, please remember to bring a gold coin donation which your Whānau teacher will collect. Funds raised from Pink Shirt Day will go to the Mental Health Foundation to reduce bullying; through raising awareness about bullying prevention, funding education workshops and supplying free resources that promote inclusive workplaces, schools and communities. While you don’t need to come in complete pink, please include as much pink into your outfit as possible. There will also be a Iwi ‘pink photo’ competition on Pink Shirt Day, and several prizes ready for the winning whānaus.

As it gets nearer to Winter, there tends to be a rise of students wearing non-uniform items to school. We want to remind students as often as possible to please wear a plain black zip up jacket or a plain black/white long sleeve shirt underneath the school uniform shirts. Free KidsCan raincoats are available at the dean's office for any students who would like to collect one.

This week we are introducing the Sports prefects Zoe Dickey(Yr 13), Paige Cleaver and Zane Brown(Yr 12’s), who have been organizing Iwi turbo touch in Term 1, and Senior and Junior Volleyball this term.

We are currently organizing the reintroduction of Kamo’s Got Talent, a crazy hair day for the Westpac Chopper Appeal fundraiser, an Art/Culture mural along the far fence of our field, Shave for a Cure. We know these fun activities make daily school life much more interesting and will hopefully increase attendance, and encourage two of our school values; Pride and Participation.

Lastly, the Smokefree Rockquest heats is on this Saturday, 6th May at the Forum North (Theatre), starts at 1.00pm. Come along and support our school band "Close Contacts".

Ngā mihi,

The Head Prefect Team.
