SPORTS update....

KHS Editor —

The last couple of weeks of term has been action packed for sport at Kamo High School.

Both of our Girls and Boys football teams have been playing semi finals with our Girls team taking on Bream Bay in the Girls Division 2 Semi final out at Bream Bay. Our girls game away with the win in a very intense game 4-2 which means they will now take on Kerikeri High School in the final the first week back of Term 3.

Our boys played WBHS 1st XI in their semi final for the Premier/Division 1 divisions. Our boys did extremely well holding out WBHS scoreless for roughly the first 20 minutes of the game and had some great attacking opportunities but unfortunately couldn't quite get one past WBHS highly skilled goalie. The final score ended up being 5-0 to WBHS 1st XI but when you take into consideration that our boys are in Div 1 and WBHS are the top of the Premier division this was a great result in my eyes! Our boys will now take on Pompallier playing off for 3rd and 4th the first week back of Term 3.

A great result by both of our Football teams so well done.

We also had a mixed Turbo Touch team represent us at the NZSS Turbo Touch Championships held at the Trusts Arena in Auckland. Kamo High School and Whangarei Girls High School were the only Northland schools represented at the event. We had some great success winning 3 out of 4 pool play games putting us 2nd place behind a highly skilled Tokoroa team in our pool. This meant we played off against the 1st place team in Pool B, Manurewa. Unfortunately we went down in this game leaving us settling for 3rd place.

We would also like to congratulate Mitchell Scott who competed at the NSSSA Motorcross and came away with 3rd in his division. Well done Mitchell.

While Netball, Football and other winter sporting codes take a break for the holidays our Girls 1st XI continue with their competition rounds and we wish them all the best for their upcoming games.

Term 3 is also packed with events, including Tournament Week which will see our Girls 1st XI Hockey Team head away to Pukekohe for their tournament, our Girls 1st XI Football Team head off to Palmerston North and our Boys 1st XI Football team playing their tournament locally at Tikipunga in the last week of August. Fundraising for these teams is already under way and will continue right up to Tournament so we would like to thank those businesses and the public that are helping support our teams where ever possible.
Remember to keep an eye on our Kamo High School Sports Facebook page for more detailed write ups and photos of all sporting events and to keep up to date with what is coming up.
