Year 9 Health Screening Assessment

KHS Editor —

Kamo High School is pleased to support a positive health initiative, that provides an opportunity for all students in Year 9 to receive health screening and assessment by the School Youth Nurse.

The aim of the screening is to identify any health needs that students may have, so that we can support them and their families in accessing heatlh services. This will help to ensure that students are in class ready and able to learn.

The School Youth Nurse, will meet with each year 9 student and discuss their healthand wellbeing. The discussion with the Nurse will cover topics such as:

  • Visits to health services such as the GP and dentists
  • Health factors relating to home, school and friends
  • Interests outside of school
  • Mental health and body image concerns
  • Education and advice on drugs, alcohol, and sexual health

Every student is asked for their consent before an asssessment is undertaken, and has the right to decline. Parents can also withdraw their child from the screening programme by contacting the school student support centre and requesting that they do not wish to participate.

If you wish to withdraw your child from this initiative, please contact Lynda at the student support centre by the 24th February 2023.

This is a Ministry of Health led initiative. For more information about the health assessment please contact your School Youth Nurse responsible for the health assessment programme.

Contact details can be found on the attached letter.
