AquaBots - Tauranga Nationals

KHS Editor —

Our Aquabots team made it to the Tauranga Nationals over the weekend of December 3rd and 4th. We took down two teams departing nice and early at 7am Saturday morning and had a relaxing drive to Tauranga making sure we stopped at the South African store on the way down to stock up on snacks.

We made it early in the afternoon and had a stretch of legs and played some Pokemon Go which got quite competitive! It was then getting ready for the competition running through our presentations and having dinner before getting ready for bed.

The next day we were hyped and ready for the competition! Our two teams performed really well and I am so proud of how they carried themselves, represented Kamo High, and put their all into the tasks! Mantarays consisting of Josh Richardson, Riley Palmer, and Jamie Lowen got the fastest time on the obstacle course, came second in the offshore fishpen activity and came first equal for the quiz. Hydrophobic consisting of Lilian Knapp, Tamara McQuinn, Carter Hayes, Troy De Bruyn, and Lleyton Zwaanenberg came first equal in the quiz and third in the presentations.

We had a long drive home and made it back to Whangarei just before midnight. We had an excellent time and it was the perfect way to end the year of hard work and perseverance our kids had shown.

A massive thank you to Donna, Leslie, Tracey, and Darryl for making this trip happen so last minute! And a huge huge thank you to Toni and Ivan for all of their support with weekend sessions, fundraising, and rock solid support. Thank you to the Kamo Club for the fundraising opportunities offered to us and their well wishes for the competition.
