Farewell to Shona Hill

KHS Editor —

Today we farewell Shona Hill - Community Education Coordinator extraordinaire.

Shona has been in this role since 1995 initially as the assistant CEW Coordinator and then for the past 20 years has been the full time Coordinator.

Adult Community Education has changed over the years.  For a long time schools throughout the North were given an allocation of hours to provide adult classes in their local community.   Some years back a decision was made to only have one provider and this was providing adult education out of Kamo High School.

Shona has done an absolutely amazing job in ensuring the hours allocated through the Tertiary Education Commission have been spread far and wide and while many classes operate out of Whangarei there are also many operating in other areas under her guidance.

Adult education is an important community service.  It provides not only an educational purpose but somewhere for community members to go to and connect with other adults.

Shona has left us with a terrific legacy which we hope we can do justice to.  Thank you Shona and our very best wishes for a long and happy retirement.
