On Tuesday 11th of June 2024, Pūhoro Charitable Trust delivered their Term Two Wānanga Pūrau event at Semenoff Stadium in Whangārei.

A group of our Year 11 and Year 12 tauira from Te Kura Tuarua o Te Kamo  went along to find out more about STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Mātauranga Māori) learning and career opportunities.

Along with Ms Osborne and Whaea Amy Tipene, our Year 12s participated in some thought provoking 'hands on' STEMM activities and our Year 11s found out more about NCEA and career pathways as well as learning an awesome Pūhoro waiata. The atmosphere was full of whanaungatanga, and the lunchtime shout of free large pizzas, garlic bread and Subway meals went down a real treat with all of our tauira!

It was an awesome opportunity to try out some fascinating context-based learning while strengthening our appreciation for the richness of Mātauranga Māori, thanks to our new Pūhoro kaihautu, Kayleb Matthews, and the team from Pūhoro Charitable Trust. "It was really awesome to see the students engage with the sessions, and their enthusiasm and eagerness to try new things were inspiring," Kayleb later told us. "The event was a great success. It was such a delight to see your tauira walk through the doors and have them be a part of our Wānanga, as they are always such a positive rōpū  of rangatahi, and an absolute pleasure to have."

On that note, please check out the digital images below from our most recent Pūhoro Wānanga Pūrau to see just how engaged (and connected with our wider 'community of learning') our KHS rōpū was on the day.
