Northland Senior School Boys Volleyball Champions 2022

KHS Editor —

Kamo High School A team set the standard at the Division 1 Championship day on Tuesday, sweeping aside the competition to be unbeaten without losing a set. Their level of consistency and ability to control the ball was a telling factor in both their offensive and defensive plays. Darcy Holwell led the side well as captain and steered the plays with great mastery. Connor Couchman and Sloan Potter made numerous impactful plays to assert their dominance at the net and with their serves. Reliable as ever on the pass was Junior Esela whose consistency was the foundation at which the team was able to build their offense upon. Winning this title affirms the dedication and skill these boys have. The last time KHS won this title was in 2011 so regaining top spot meant a lot to the team (and their coach). Team A members - Darcy Holwell (capt), Rihley Svensen, Sloan Potter, Connor Couchman, Jacob Lowther, Harry Lowther, Junior Esela, William Payne.

Kamo High School B team set themselves the goal of winning Division 2 and therefore gaining our school another entry into Division 1 for next year. A very sought after title for all Northland schools looking to provide the next level of competition for their upcoming volleyballers. Our B team started the day working really hard to establish effective combinations with each other and the success here paved the way for them to win a tight deciding set to secure the Division 2 title. Zane Brown did an amazing amount of work as setter and captained the side. Reliability from the service line from Campbell Hylton-Cave, Gus Borrie and Daniel Uale collected many points and heaped a lot of pressure on opposing teams, and Cohen Fryer was always a threat in the middle. A fantastic achievement from our younger, developing players of the future.

Overall our Volleyball boys did themselves and our kura proud. Not many students get to say they are a Northland Senior Schools Champion.
