Mya Kereopa and the Global Kaitiakitanga Project

KHS Editor —

Thursday evening was very exciting with Mya Kereopa Year 13 coming within a whisker of being an NZ representative in Dubai, at EXPO 2020 Dubai UAE (yes just like the Olympics 2020 affected by covid) to showcase her product in the New Zealand Pavilion. The individuals from the winning company will also act as New Zealand’s youth ambassadors at other youth and innovation-related activities at Expo 2020 with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise.
In a Global Zoom presentation, Mya not only had to present her sustainable product but also explain how it could break into the UAE market. She even had a technology issue during her presentation but powered on to impress those watching from (literally) around the world. She represented Kamo High School brilliantly, demonstrating all those values that we advocate at this Kura and was highly commended. The judges loved hearing about her personal journey in developing her company. The Neuro Diverse Learning Resources company (NDLR) was founded two years ago by Mya Kereopa and Kahn Tangihaere-Brom from Kamo High School, Northland. The company creates resources designed to aid and develop vital life skills for neuro-diverse children. The resources use simple wording, a soft colour palette and high-quality illustrations which have been specifically brought together for the neurodiverse community. The founders identified that there was a real gap in the market for 2 million-plus children and hope that their resources will be translated into many languages for global use.
