Prefects Panui

Pauline Thomson —

Kia ora koutou katoa!

For the entirety of week six, our Year 9 cohort was lucky enough to spend some time down at the not-so-Bland Bay for their first camp.

Even though I now have a raging tanline on my feet from my jandals, it was so special to be a part of our ākonga’s camp journey. In fact, the same journey my Year 13 cohort was fortunate enough to experience four years prior.

To see everyone getting out of their comfort zones, owning and living our TATŌU values, and really making the most out of their time at camp, was truly fulfilling to see. The strong winds, sea lice, and prickles did not make it easy though!

Overall, it was an absolute privilege to meet and connect with all of our fabulous Year 9 students in a more personal and activity driven setting. It isn’t everyday that ākonga get to experience camp, so, a humongous mihi must go out to everyone who made this event possible. Without the help and organisation of everyone involved, the memories and connections made would not have been possible.

Thank you to our awesome team of Prefects: Charli McDonnel, David Pirini, Levi Wano, Lucia Fenwick, and Skitty Esene, for all of your incredible support and assistance - you do not go unnoticed.

This is just a reminder that our Wellness Prefects, Kade Cuff and Sophie Jesen, are currently working hard in preparation for our Relay For Life mufti day coming up on Thursday, the 20th of March. This mufti day aims to fundraise for the Cancer Society - the organisation which makes Relay For Life possible. If you decide to wear mufti on this day, you must bring a gold coin koha. No gold, no go. Help us smash our $3,000.00 fundraising goal by donating to our school team here: https://relayforlife.org.nz/kamo-high-school

Finally, I have mentioned a very well known and relevant Māori proverb below for you all to think about as you enter your weekend.

“He aha te mea nui? Māku e kii atu, he tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.”
“What is the most important thing in the world? Well, let me tell you, it is people, it is people, it is people.”

Have an awesome weekend whanau,
Luke Rouse, on behalf of the Head Prefects
