201 Outdoor Education camping trip

KHS Editor —

The two Outdoor Education 201 classes recently had their first camp and tramp experience out at Whangarei Heads. Students tented at the Manaia Baptist Camp as part of their camping standard and traversed across the challenging ridgeline Te Whara track, also known as Bream Head, for their tramping standard.

Both trips were lucky enough to get fine weather which made for excellent tramping and sightseeing on the first day. All students demonstrated great perseverance in completing the 5 hours tramp which scaled not one but two mountains and had a 1200-step almost vertical staircase from the get-go.

Although challenging, students felt a great sense of achievement at the end of it and it will no doubt be a day that they will remember. Well done to you all. Thank you to my helpers Abby McGinn and Narissa Fale for your help, encouragement and support.

Looking forward to the adventures to come!
