KHS New Build

Property Update

KHS Editor —

Some of you who pop into school frequently or walk the boundary will have noticed preliminary work has started on the new school build!

The Community Education and Hair & Beauty buildings have been moved and are now lowered on their foundations. Contractors are working hard to complete the decking and fencing around them to enable them once again to be used. This has not been without its difficulties due to the wet weather, however progress has been made and the areas where the buildings were has now been tidied up.

So what's next you might ask.

In August our much loved whare will be demolished. After a great deal of consultation and negotiation with Kaumātua and the Ministry of Education this was the only path forward. The carvings on the front of the whare will be preserved and used for the brand new whare which will be built as part of the school development project. Attached is a rendered drawing of what we expect this to look like. It certainly does have that wow factor we were looking for. It will be placed in a much more central place in the school which means greater use and access.

If anyone is interested in the aluminium joinery or roofing iron on the whare please leave a message with the school office. We are looking to sell at least the aluminium joinery which is in good condition. Viewing can take place by appointment with a member of our property team. If unsold it will be removed. Any building development does mean a little bit of pain to receive gain.

Sadly we will have to lose some of our larger trees but please don't be alarmed when you see this happening as an experienced landscaper has been employed by the Ministry of Education and the new school build will be fully landscaped with native plantings upon completion of building works. We hope you share with our excitement as we begin what is likely to be a fairly long journey through to completion of our new blocks and whare at the end of 2023.

We will endeavour to keep you updated through this newsletter as works take place.
