Northland Regional Aquabots Competition

KHS Editor —

On Tuesday 12th our kids went to the Whangarei Aquatic Centre to compete in the Northland Regional Aquabots Competition. We had four of our seven teams compete against other highschools in the Northland region.

The teams had to give a presentation about their experience, complete an obstacle course, deactivate a 'sensor', play a game of noughts and crosses, and complete a quiz on geothermal activity.

We were fortunate that two of our teams got placed! Ohm's Flaw came third and Tuck came in second. Big ups to Josh Richardson, Roman Nicholson, and Blair Young for Ohm's Flaw on competition day, and to Lleyton Zwaanenburg, Troy DeBruyn, and Zac Trigg for Team Tuck. Josh Head and Jesse Inger were both in Ohm's Flaw but were unable to make it on competition day which was disappointing, however they have both contributed so much, not only to their team but to all participants :)

We all had a fantastic day hanging out, scoping out the competition, hanging with the Navy, Army, and Air Force representatives. It was all possible due to the work and organization of Gareth Bodle and the Northland Rotary Club. It was a great outcome for our first competition and has given us a lot to work on and motivate us for the rest of the year. Thanks to everyone for their support, it's been a great term! :)
