Tour Te Kamo

KHS Editor —

Over the last 2 weeks of school this year a group of 17 students opted for the Community Project; Tour Te Kamo.

The idea of the Project was to promote well being, enlighten students about volunteering their time in the community and generally acting in a positive and helpful way.

The students have planned 2 routes around the Whangarei area. The first, cycling to Parihaka, walking up and down picking up rubbish and also cleaning up Mere Park. The second is cycling to the pump track and playground, cleaning up and then onto Onerahi, via another 2 parks, picking up rubbish en route.

The students planned their project, with a budget and pitched it to a Dragons Den style panel. Along the way the students will be learning about positive contribution, promoting Kamo High School in a good way, mechanical bike skills and maintenance, route planning, safety and risk assessment and management skills.

Many thanks to the students for participating and immersing themselves in the project.
