KHS Editor —

Well Trades have gotten off to a very industrious start with the repurposing of the old Student Services Centre roofing iron into our new, bright back fence on the field. The old wire fence was looking considerably tired and had a few holes, so we thought it was a good way to repurpose some of the Student Services Centre and Whare Wānanga roofing iron that we salvaged last year. The fence took 76 sheets that we cut down to 1.8m to complete as you can see from the photo’s it is a very long fence, 56m to be exact. This is a level 2 fencing project which includes concreting, measurement, and constuction. We also used an airless sprayer to make it super bright using Nile Blue as the colour.

Next we have the level 3 students who are designing and constructing an accessible ramp to the Pool and International students room. This is one of their level 3 projects that will fix the washed out access that was there.

The level 1 students are starting to construct garden furniture that will incorporate other standards such as joints, handtools, sketching and drawing, workshop safety and portable tools.

We would like to congratulate all of our students who have successfully passed their external courses. We now have 36 certified first aiders. There were 20 students who passed their Health and Safety course and 11 students who successfully passed an introduction to the Height Safety course.  All of these courses are adult courses from external providers. We would like to thank Lifecare (First Aid) and Safety in Action (Height and Safety) for your great professional approach, and to Te Tai Tokerau Trust for your funding of this as it gives our students a great start to becoming work ready.
