BIOLOGY LEVEL 2 FIELD TRIP TO MATAPOURI

Carolyn Matthews —

On Monday 6th March, 31 students from Mr Rossin's Biology class made the trip to Matapouri beach to study the creatures that live on the Rocky Shore. Students are required to carry out a study involving a Belt transect to find out which species live along the Rocky shore line.

The students encountered many species such as Oysters, Barnacles, Oyster Borers and Periwinkles. One group even had a surprise visit from a baby octopus in one of the rock pools. The students worked hard in the heat locating and recording their data. They will use this for their up and coming Internal (2.6), which is all about the patterns of species from the High tide to Low tide mark.

A big thank you to the students and Mrs Osbourne and Sarah the technician for all their help.
