A word from the Principal - He kupu nā te Tumuaki

KHS Editor —

Tēnā koutou katoa,

The tragedy that unfolded last week will be with our community for some time and we offer our aroha and support to all affected. Our guidance team is available for any student who needs support now or in the future. We appreciate there are elevated levels of concern around EOTC events, so I want to reassure you that student safety remains paramount in all our learning activities, in and out of the classroom. As a kura we will continue to review our policies and practices regarding EOTC, as we do with all curriculum subjects. If you have any questions, please ask the teacher in charge.

The school value that we have been focusing on for the last two weeks is Aroha Atu/Respect, "I treasure the power of love, respect for myself, and respect for others' '.  Activities in whānau time and subject classes have focussed on this value and we will be celebrating working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness on Friday with our Pink Shirt mufti day. Money raised from this mufti day will be going to the NZ Mental Health Foundation.

This week was National Youth week and we thank Te Ora Hou for celebrating our youth at Kamo High School with their activities that they do at our Kura every Thursday during the first lunch, and especially this week where many of our students won prizes.

Friday 26th May is when we will be having our Year 9 & 10 celebration assembly where our Year 9 and 10 student's hard work and effort will be rewarded. This assembly will be live streamed, please look out on our facebook page for the link.

We are nearing the middle of Term 2 and students will receive their mid term reports at the end of week 5, these reports will have their subject specific skills and engagement data. If you are unsure about how your child is progressing or are worried, please contact their classroom teacher to discuss the next steps.

Many of our junior students have participated in planting the 5000 native trees along our field bank. We hope that in the future these students can look upon these trees and tell the future generations about their time at Kamo High School.

Have a wonderful weekend.
