The Trades level 3 students have been very productive this term, finally finishing the access ramp up into the pool and international room. This has been a very big project for them as they had to design and build this to come under the specifications for New Zealand standards for accessibility. This will make getting to the pool and the International room so much easier. This fits in well with their level 3 units design build and overcome problems, the ramp was built to a 1:14 ratio to comply with the education department guidelines.
The most difficult part was having to connect to the steps already in place and the fence enclosing the turf. They were able to overcome all of this as well as the weather bombs we seem to have been plaqued with this year.
Using the extensive knowledge of both our Tutors, they were able to get it done.
We were also able to have the level 1 & 2 students do their concrete units in the form of a connecting path that flows into the now fully graveled carpark next to the turf, where we house all of our school vehicles.
We also have three cabins on the go with level 2 & 3 students working in teams to get these done. One is 10m2 the other two are 18m2.
The level 1 students were able to take part in the literacy and numeracy pilot exams as well so they are moving ahead nicely.
All levels have been able to bounce between inside and outside work as the weather allows so we are tracking along well to complete all of our projects to a high standard.
