OED201 - Mangawhai Walk and Snowplanet
Two OED201 classes recently had their last two excursions of the year. They consisted of an overnight camp and day tramp at Mangawhai Heads and a day at Snow Planet.
We were lucky to get beautiful weather during the camp which meant students could make the most of the outdoors. Students had a blast boarding down the massive sand dunes and then dipping in the ocean for a cold water swim and then playing sports in the evening.
On the second day, we set out from the campsite to complete the round trip of the Mangawhai Cliff Walk which took around 3 hours. During the tramp, we came across a seal laying on the beach but after calling DOC found out this was normal behaviour. On the way back we also got to see a small school of dolphins jumping out of the water which was pretty cool. Overall it was a really nice camp and the students did well to manage themselves.
Snow Planet was a first for many and most had never skied or snowboarded or even seen snow so it was an exciting experience for the two classes. For their first time on snow, students went through a big learning curve which meant a lot of wipeouts! However, it was great to see students getting the hang of it and having a great time. Thanks to Mr Batchelor, Whaea Missy and Gabrielle for helping out with the excursions!
