Message from the Principal

Conrad Kelly —

E te whānau, tēnā koutou katoa,

Yesterday, we hosted our first pōwhiri of the year. This was an opportunity to formally welcome whānau who have recently joined our school community.

I was immensely proud of the KNS tamariki who were part of the pōwhiri. A number of our tamariki were performing kaikaranga and kaikōrero roles for the first time. They carried out these roles confidently and well. I know that they were nervous, but they certainly rose to the occasion, “E kore te tangata e pakiri i runga i te wai marino – A person who remains in calm waters will never get strong.”

Our other children supported them wonderfully, with powerful waiata and haka. A huge thank you to Hemi Prime, Adrienne Troughton and Wilhelmina Wooff, for their great work in preparing our tamariki and giving them the confidence and understanding to welcome our new whānau, in a way unique to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our Year 7 & 8s in Rooms 28 and 29 are on camp at Lake Rotoiti this week. Our Year 5 & 6 classes will all be taking part in camps at El Rancho, Waikanae, in the week commencing Monday 14 November.

As always if you need any support or have any questions, please contact one of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT):
