Kids’ Lit Quiz 2022

Mary Callister —

Last week 8 children from Year 7/8 took part in the Wellington Regional heat of the Kids Lit Quiz, a worldwide quiz about children’s literature. They have working hard all year preparing for the event.

The children answered 10 rounds of questions on topics such as Royalty, Ships and Monkey! Both teams were the highest scorers in one of the rounds, so all children received a prize. Overall our two teams performed well.

Here is a picture of our team who placed third, Emmett, Hannah. Lola and Sienna, with the Quiz Master Wayne Mills. More photos of the event are displayed outside the Library.

Well done also to Anna, Keira, Olivia and Tara who came 12th out of over 50 teams.

Lola has written her account of the morning;

The Kids Lit Quiz was an experience I don’t want to forget. I feel so proud of myself and my team for coming in third place. The venue was great, I loved the space and the vibe of the room. I find it sad that Marsden won’t be hosting it anymore. I’m so glad there is a competition available that turns reading into a sport because in some places that isn’t an option. I really hope next year I can experience the Nationals!!! When I walked into the room, the air was buzzing with excitement and it took us quite a while to find our seats! My teammates and I saw the man in the Quizmaster hat and we all decided, “I WANT THAT HAT!” I now have fifteen more dollars than I did before and I’m very proud of myself.
