Summary of 7 December 2022 Board meeting

Jacqueline Wee —

The KNS Board met for the final time this year on 7 December.

The Board discussed key areas of focus for KNS in 2023. The areas of focus will form part of the 2023 annual plan to meet the goals in the school Charter.

One area of focus will be engaging with the Ministry of Education’s curriculum refresh (including a focus on literacy, communication and maths) and continuing to roll out structured literacy programmes. KNS will also continue to roll out an assessment tool called ‘PACT’ (Progress and Consistency Tool).

Staff training will focus on culturally responsive practice, and on PB4L (‘Positive Behaviour for Learning’), a data-driven programme to (ultimately) improve wellbeing. There are strong links between inclusivity/wellbeing and achievement. There is also a strong link between attendance at school and achievement, and this will be another key focus for 2023, even though KNS has above average attendance when compared with other Wellington schools.

The Board encourages parents and caregivers to contact Conrad or the Deputy Principals (Phil McIntosh and James Appleton) at any time if they want more information about any of the above – the school has an ‘open door’ policy.

The Board’s next meeting will be on Wednesday 22 February 2023, at 6.30pm in the staffroom. Board meetings are open to the public.

The Board would like to sincerely thank KNS staff for all their hard mahi (work) during another Covid-affected year. The Board would also like to wish the whole school community a Meri Kirihimete (Merry Christmas) and a very happy and relaxing holiday season.
